Be honest. As a photographer, have you of thought any of the following lately?
- My business is really taking off and I need help managing my success.
- How can I find a better balance of work and home life?
- I spend all this time and money going to conventions and seminars. I get home with so much energy and inspiration, but I lose it all so fast.
- I feel stuck and my photography business isn’t moving forward.
- I’m ready to make some changes, but I’m not sure how to proceed.
- What would I do if my photography business fails to support me?
- Am I doing the right things in my business?
You’re not alone
If any of the above sound familiar to you, you’re not alone. Many photographers face these questions. And sometimes, all of us need a little help. If you’re sick and tired of letting your fear and self-limiting thoughts stop you and your photography career in your tracks, you may be ready to commit to making meaningful changes by enlisting the services of a life coach who specializes in working with photographers and other creative professionals.
A personal trainer for your life
Having a life coach is like have a personal trainer for your life. It helps you get clear about your values, articulate your goals, and maintain your focus and momentum in reaching your goals.
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is not therapy. A therapist will make the assumption that there’s been something wrong with you in the past, make a medical/psychological diagnosis, and recommend treatment. Coaching isn’t that way. Coaching is about moving forward. It’s about claiming what you really want and who you really are in a powerful way, managing your self-limiting inner chatter, and being your best self.
Coaching individuals is typically done via telephone, so it doesn’t require any travel time or expenses for you. Among other things, a good coach will listen very closely to you, craft meaningful questions for you, and suggest “homework” between sessions that will lead you to discover your own answers and become a strong leader of your own life and business. Don’t let your fear of these questions be a stopping point for you. Embrace them as an informational launching point for creativity and meaningful changes in your life.
How I got into coaching
I got into coaching photographers because my wife is a coach (and I’ve been a photographer for quite a while). When she was training to become a coach, she would come home from each training with a new set of communication tools that totally blew my mind. She’s now on the faculty of the Coaches Training Institute and the Center for Right Relationship, and as her spouse, I’ve taken advantage of the invaluable opportunity to take the fundamental training from both coaching schools (as well as attending other trainings and seminars). The tools I’ve learned have had an enormous positive impact on my home and work life. If you’re truly ready to commit to creating positive changes, I can personally and whole-heartedly recommend having the ongoing support of a coach. What’s stopping you from being ready?
