Photographers Question of the Week – How Does Photography Feed Your Ego vs. Feed Your Soul?

24 Mar

I’ve found that what resonates with my soul resonates with my values, and what resonates with my ego is often external acknowledgment from others. Neither is good or bad – it’s simply a piece of info about the different sources of things that make me feel good in different ways. For me, one is temporary, and one is more long-lasting.

What about you? In what ways does your life/work as a photographer feed your soul? And in what ways does it feed your ego? Another way to look at this question is from the hunger point of view: What is your ego hungry for? What’s your soul hungry for? What do you notice when pondering this question?

Photographers Question of the Week – Where Does Your Creative Power Come From?

15 Mar

As a photographer, during what activity do you most feel the most powerful? Shooting? Selling? Marketing? Admin? Strategic Planning? Journaling? What does that power feel like? What does it do for you? What is it about this activity that makes you feel so strong? What would you give up to feel that power more often?

This stream of questions is just the beginning of your inquiry into your power as a photographer. If this inquiry intrigues you, having a life coach can help you make powerful changes to make your photography life and home life more meaningful.

Photographers Question of the Week – Camera Conscious?

05 Mar

Be conscious next time you’re behind your camera. Beyond what you see, what are you aware of when you look through the viewfinder? What’s important to you about the work you’re about to create?

Most wedding and portrait photographers pick up their cameras without being conscious of the core values at play in the work they’re about to do. The next time you have a shoot, add this stream of questions to your prep list and see how it changes your work: “What’s important to me about this assignment?” “What’s the value to me of these images?” Beyond what I expect to see, what do I want to be aware of when I’m looking through the viewfinder? “How do I want to feel when I’m working?”

Good questions are only the tip of the iceberg in life coaching.
